RAMALLAH, Saturday, April 20, 2019 (WAFA) – Dozens of Palestinians were injured on Friday in the weekly protests at either the Gaza border with Israel or in the West Bank, said the three Palestinian Arabic dailies in their main front page story today.
They said Israeli soldiers on the Gaza border opened fire at the Palestinians participating in the March of Return protests injuring many, among them medics and journalists covering the event.
In the West Bank, soldiers opened fire at protesters demonstrating against Israel’s settlement policy. Soldiers attacked the protesters causing injuries, reported the three dailies.
In other news, the interview Jason Greenblatt, the special US envoy to the Middle East, gave to a TV station in which he spoke about the so-called deal of the century and Palestinian reaction to it occupied a prominent space on the front page of the three dailies.
Each of the three papers headlined with a different issue mentioned by Greenblatt with al-Quds quoting him saying that the two-state solution will never lead to peace and the deal of the century does not talk about land in the Sinai given to Gaza, al-Ayyam saying Greenblatt warned both sides against losing this “opportunity” and al-Hayat al-Jadida quoting the Palestinian Foreign Ministry attacking Greenblatt and saying he revealed the level of the conspiracy.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said in another front page news item that President Mahmoud Abbas arrives today in Cairo for a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart and to attend the Arab foreign ministers meeting.
It quoted the Arab League saying that the Arab position must stand against schemes aimed to undermine the Palestinian cause.
Al-Ayyam said the factions are pushing for intra-Palestinian reconciliation.
It said Israel demolished a home for a Palestinian prisoner in Hebron.
Al-Quds said Christian churches following the Gregorian calendar celebrated Good Friday yesterday in Jerusalem’s Old City.
It also said 50,000 Muslims attended the Friday prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque, also in Jerusalem’s Old City.
It said in a story by its Washington correspondent that members of the US Senate are introducing a bill calling for resumption of US aid to the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.
