JENIN, Thursday, June 27, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli forces today overnight detained at least nine Palestinians from various parts of the West Bank, said local and security sources.
Israeli forces detained three Palestinians, including a former prisoner, after ransacking their families’ houses in Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank.
The predawn raid triggered confrontations during which a number of protestors suffocated from Israeli military tear gas canisters. They received treatment at the scene.
A similar Israeli military raid was conducted in Silat al-Harithiya town, west of Jenin, resulting in the detention of a Palestinian.
Meanwhile, Director of the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS) in Tubas Mahmoud Sawafta confirmed an Israeli military raid in Tubas city, resulting in the detention of a Palestinian.
In Ramallah district, Israeli military vehicles raided Kobar town, northwest of Ramallah, where soldiers rounded up two former prisoners and ransacked several houses.
During ensuing confrontations, soldiers opened fire towards local youngsters who protested the raid and civilians’ houses. No injuries were reported though.
In the southern West Bank, security sources confirmed that an Israeli military raid was carried out in Tuqu‘ town, southeast of Bethlehem, resulting in the detention of a Palestinian.
In Hebron district, an Israeli military force raided al-Fawwar refugee camp, where they thoroughly searched several houses and detained a former prisoner.
Muhammad Awad, a media activist, said that a separate Israeli military raid was conducted in Beit Ummar town, north of Hebron, where soldiers locked the family of Abed Ismail Muhammad Za‘aqiq inside a room and searched their house, turning it upside down.
Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.
These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
