JEDDAH, June 13, 2025 (WAFA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed on Friday the UN General Assembly’s resolution demanding an immediate, ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
In an emergency session on Thursday in New York, the UNGA overwhelmingly adopted a resolution demanding an immediate, unconditional, and lasting ceasefire in Gaza.
The resolution was backed by 149 Member States, with 12 voting against and 19 abstaining.
The OIC stated that the 149 Member States voting in favor of the resolution reflect the political will of the overwhelming majority of the world's states.
It stressed the importance of the provisions of the resolution, particularly the demand for “an immediate halt to all settlement construction, expansion, land confiscation, home demolitions, forced evictions and settler violence in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem,” the call for “immediate and concrete steps to preserve the territorial integrity of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and towards unifying the Gaza Strip with the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority,” and stressing “the need for accountability in order to ensure Israel’s respect of international law obligations.”
It renewed the call for the international community to take the measures necessary to compel Israel, the occupying power, to immediately and fully comply with the terms of this UNGA Resolution, including bringing an end to the military aggression and humanitarian suffering in the war-battered Strip, and the immediate cessation of the policies of annexation, colonization, the de-Palestinization of Jerusalem, along with colonists’ violence in the occupied West Bank.
