RAMALLAH, Tuesday, January 08, 2019 (WAFA) – The Israeli air raids on targets in the Gaza Strip and army incursion into the West Bank city of al-Bireh, Ramallah’s twin city, were highlighted on the front page of the three dailies on Tuesday.
The papers also reported on the army shooting of a girl at Zaatara checkpoint, north of Ramallah, and injuring her lightly. The army arrested the girl.
Al-Quds said Jewish rabbis came out in support of the murderers of Aisha Rabi, who was killed when a car she was in was hit by a stone thrown by settlers in October.
It quoted Hamas officials saying in reaction to Israel suspending entry of Qatari money into Gaza that Hamas will earn its rights by force.
Al-Ayyam quoted Fatah official Azzam al-Ahmad saying that Hamas authority in Gaza will be undermined with a series of measures.
It said Hamas police were deployed at Rafah crossing with Egypt after the Palestinian Authority personnel had left it.
It also said factions in Gaza urged Egypt to intervene quickly to stop the rapid deterioration in Gaza.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Hamas continues to target Fatah members in Gaza and has detained more than 1000 activists since the start of the month.
It reported in its main front page story on the visit by President Mahmoud Abbas to Egypt, in which he stressed the deep relations between Egypt and Palestine.
It said Pope Francis called for resuming negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel.
