Newspapers Review: Dailies highlight remarks by President Abbas on international conference

RAMALLAH, August 30, 2018 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted on their Thursday front page issue remarks by President Mahmoud Abbas on convening an international conference and a multilateral mechanism to draw a peace solution between the Palestinians and Israel.

Abbas made these remarks during a press conference with his Bosnian counterpart in Ramallah on Wednesday.

Al-Quds said in its main front page story that the Palestinians plan several moves to confront US attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause.

Al-Ayyam said US ambassador to Israel, David Freidman, denied that Israel has to pay a price for a peace deal as said by his president, Donald Trump.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said on its front page that Abbas and his Egyptian counterpart Abdul Fattah al-Sisi discussed in a telephone call Egyptian efforts to consolidate intra-Palestinian reconciliation.

Al-Quds said in a report from Gaza by the Chinese news agency Xinhua that delay in reaching reconciliation deal between Fatah and Hamas weakens the Palestinian position on calm with Israel.

The three papers highlighted Israeli measures in the occupied territories including demolitions in Silwan, an East Jerusalem neighborhood, and assault on residents, as well as in Beit Ummar, near Hebron and Bartaa, near Jenin, and notices to confiscate dozens of dunums of land in Beit Taamar, near Bethlehem.

They also reported on reactions to an Israeli court’s decision giving legal status to an illegal settlement outpost in the West Bank.

The papers also reported on the rally in Ramallah demanding that Israel return bodies of Palestinians it has been holding for many years.

The papers also reported on the start of the new schoolyear in Palestine.
