NABLUS, August 8, 2018 (WAFA) – Dozens of Palestinian journalists Wednesday participated in a rally in the city of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank in support of fellow journalists held by Israel and to protest Israel’s policies in detaining journalists.

Participants in the rally raised photos of imprisoned journalists and slogans denouncing the Israeli crackdown on freedom of press and expression in the occupied territories.

Nasser Jawabra, head of the Ministry of Information office in Nablus, told WAFA that Israel aims to hide the truth, which is why it keeps detaining journalists.

“There are currently 24 imprisoned journalists, including three women, and 51 Israeli violations were reported last month against Palestinian journalists in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip. This will only make our work even stronger,” said Jawabra.

Israeli forces detained six journalists last week alone.

Rima al-Amleh, a journalist, reiterated calls by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate on international organizations to urgently do something to guarantee release of Palestinian journalists from Israeli prisons and provide protection for them.
