RAMALLAH, August 8, 2018 (WAFA) – The killing of two Palestinians as a result of Israeli tank shelling in Gaza hit the front page headlines in Palestinian daily newspapers on Wednesday.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that two Palestinians were killed and several others injured after Israeli artillery shelling targeted a post in the northern besieged Gaza Strip.

Al-Ayyam said in this regard that two members of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, were killed in the shelling that targeted a Hamas military post in Beit Lahiya in the northern coastal enclave.

The two fatalities were identified as Ahmed Abdallah Murjan, 23, and Abd al-Hafez Mohammad al-Sillawi, 23.

On the other hand, al-Quds opted to spotlight the latest developments with regards to a possible Hamas-Israel deal in its main news item.

Al-Quds reported head of Hamas political bureau Ismail Haniyeh stating: “The Hamas delegation will return to Cairo bearing the movement’s vision regarding all files that were discussed.”

He was also reported in al-Ayyam stating: “The Hamas delegation will return to Cairo bearing the movement’s vision regarding reconciliation, ceasefire and breaking the siege.”

They added in this regard that the Israeli government would convene to discuss prospects of a deal with Gaza on Thursday.

The dailies reported the Palestinian government raising alarm about schemes to liquidate the Palestinian question and reduce Palestinian demands to humanitarian issues.

The government was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida condemning attempts to reduce all problems facing the Gaza Strip to the issue of Palestinian Authorities civil and military employees’ salaries.

According to al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida, China has granted over $2million to the UN agency responsible for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).

Additionally, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Palestinian leaders in Israel submitted a petition to the Israeli High Court over the recently-passed Jewish Nation-State Law, demanding its cancellation.

Moreover, al-Quds published an analysis titled The Prospects for announcing US President Donald Trump’s Mideast plan, dubbed deal of the century, are fading despite leaks on expanding its team.

Al-Ayyam reported a well-informed US source saying that the White House is less enthusiastic to announce the deal of the century in 2018.

It spotlighted Israeli media reports indicating that the Israeli government is advancing a plan to construct a waste recycling facility for Maaleh Adumin settlement in the West Bank.

Yet, the dailies reported that Israeli bulldozers demolished a Palestinian-owned apartment in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Shufat.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam added that Israeli bulldozers also demolished a home and other structures in the East Jerusalem neighborhood in Jabal al-Mukabbir.

According to al-Ayyam, Israeli military razed and leveled a rural road to be used for military vehicles required for military training in Ras al-Ahmar area in the Jordan Valley.

Al-Quds reported the Gaza Ministry of National Economy revealing that Palestinian-Egyptian meetings would be held after the upcoming Islamic feast of Eid al-Adha to cover Gaza needs.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that President Mahmoud Abbas has started an official visit to Qatar on Wednesday.

They reported Secretary-General of Fatah Central Committee Jibril Rjoub denying media reports that Fatah Central Committee has accepted the resignation of Nasser al-Qudwa.
