President Abbas: a delegation heading to Cairo to discuss reconciliation file

RAMALLAH, Jul 28, 2018 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas said on Saturday that a Palestinian delegation will be heading to Cairo next Sunday to convey a clear Palestinian position regarding the Palestinian national reconciliation file.

Speaking at the commencement of the PLO Executive Committee meeting in Ramallah, the President said, “The Palestinian delegation has no response to anyone, because when we talk about this issue, we are talking about the Palestinian position that we took on 21 October 2017.”

In the meantime, President Abbas reiterated his rejection of what has become known as the US “deal of the century”.

He said the PLO meeting will discuss the recent Israeli decisions, including the Knesset‘s approval of the Jewish nation-state law which abolishes the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

On the recent visit of a Palestinian delegation to Syria, the President described the visit as very successful. He said the delegation agreed with Syrian government officials to engage the Palestinian National Authority with the UNRWA and Syrian authorities in the reconstruction of Yamouk refugee camp in Damascus.

Meanwhile, the President praised the steadfastness of the people of the Bedouin community of Khan al-Ahmad near Jerusalem saying the leadership will spare no effort to thwart Israel’s plan to demolish the community and displace its Palestinian citizens.

“There are important issues for which we must make crucial and serious decisions over the next two months. We have already talked about these issues in the Palestinian National Council, and will also be presented to the Central Council to be ready [before we discuss them] in the United Nations to take decisions on them,” he concluded.
