Japan funds project for replacement and expansion of electricity network in Salfit

RAMALLAH, July 26, 2018 (WAFA) – Japan’s Representative to Palestine, Takeshi Okubo, Thursday visited the city of Salfit in the north of the West Bank to celebrate the completion of a project funded by the Government of Japan through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

The grant of $89,700 extended to Salfit Municipality was used to install 630 KVA transformer, Lattice tower, and 4,000m of 95mm ABC cable for electricity distribution. In addition, 95mm aluminum cable of 400m length for the connection between the transformer and the main network was rehabilitated.

Upon the completion of this project, about 2,700 residents (450 households) will benefit from the safe and improved electricity network, said the press release by the Japanese Representative office in Ramallah.

In his speech at the event, Okubo emphasized Japan’s firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.

Since 1993, the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance to the Palestinians to approximately $1.8 billion. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through the Ministry of Finance and Planning since 2010.
