Italy condemns assassination attempt on prime minister

ROME, March 14, 2018 (WAFA) – Italy condemned on Wednesday the attack on Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah’s convoy while on the way to attend the inauguration of a wastewater treatment plant in the Gaza Strip.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Angelino Alfano released a statement in which he strongly condemned the attack on Hamdallah.

“I firmly condemn the attack perpetrated against Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, which fortunately claimed no victims and into which it will be essential to conduct an in-depth investigation in order to find the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” said Alfano.

“I hope that this serious episode will not undermine the efforts that Palestinian factions are making to unite the West Bank and Gaza under a single legitimate Palestinian Authority, thus achieving national reconciliation, an important goal not only in order to improve the living conditions of the Palestinian people, especially the population of the Gaza Strip, but also in the perspective of a two-State solution.”
