Presidential churches committee renews support for Jerusalem churches

 

RAMALLAH, February 28, 2018 (WAFA) – The Higher Presidential Committee of Churches Affairs Wednesday said it supports the position of the Jerusalem churches that are protesting against Israel’s tax plan.

It said in a press release Wednesday it praises the position if churches, which rejects Israel’s plan to impose taxes on churches properties including the religious, social, educational and medical institutions.  

The committee commended the position of President Mahmoud Abbas and King Abdullah II of Jordan as well as international parties that rejected the Israeli municipality plan.

It added that the decision to suspend the collection action is a temporary solution, affirming that the decision to form a professional team to study the issue does not concern Palestinians as the only thing that will be accepted is the complete reversal of the decision.

The committee vowed to refuse Israeli measures that aim to alter the identity and character of the city of Jerusalem and violates that the charters and treaties signed to guarantee the rights and privileges of churches.
