CAIRO, February 28, 2018 (WAFA) - Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary General of the League of Arab states Wednesday stressed that Arab countries will not establish relations with Israel as long as there is no just and lasting solution to the Palestinian cause.
His comments came during a meeting in Cairo with the Russian Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and the African Countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.
Both officials discussed the latest developments in relation to the Palestinian issue, Mahmoud Afifi, Secretary General’s spokesman said in a press statement.
Aboul Gheit briefed Bogdanov about talks held in Brussels last Monday between the Arab Ministerial Delegation and the European Ministers, which focused on how to move the peace process forward between Palestine and Israel, in addition to addressing the negative consequences of the US decision to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
The secretary general stressed that it would not be possible to establish relations with Israel without ending the Israeli occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian State on the territories occupied in 1967 with East Jerusalem as Palestine’s capital.
