Israel bans tourism and education ministers from an event in East Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, February 26, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli authorities Monday banned Minister of Tourism Rola Ma’ay’a and Minister of Education Sabri Saidam from attending an event in the old city of Jerusalem, according to a Tourism Ministry official.

Jiries Qumsieh, director of Ma’ay’a office, told WAFA that the two ministers were set to participate in a launch for rehabilitation of a school in the Old City when the Israeli Internal Security minister issued an order banning them from reaching the site.

Israeli police closed entrances to the old city in order to prevent the two ministers and Jerusalem’s Fatah secretary from reaching the school.

The two ministries said in a joint statement that “the Israeli hysteria will not stop them from carrying out their duties toward Jerusalem, and that such unfair practices are a proof of the occupation attempt to undermine official presence in Jerusalem as a prelude to end the Palestinian national presence there.”
