RAMALLAH, February 25, 2018 (WAFA) – News about injuries among Palestinian youth during clashes with Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank dominated the front pages of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Sunday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that a Palestinian youth was injured on Saturday when he was shot with rubber-coated steel rounds by Israeli forces during clashes in the village of Kafr Qaddoum, to the east of the city of Qalqilia, in the West Bank, while another was injured by gunshots in his shoulder during clashes with Israeli soldiers in the village of Burin, to the south of the city of Nablus.
The three dailies also said that Israeli police and intelligence Saturday evening shut down a restaurant in Zahra Street in occupied East Jerusalem and arrested two Palestinians who were in the restaurant, including the owner.
Al-Quds said that Israeli settlers confiscated 120 dunums of agricultural lands that belong to the village of Jalud, in the district of Nablus.
The newspapers reported the Palestinians’ angry reactions to the US decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem next May on the 70th anniversary of the Palestinian exodus, the Nakba.
Government spokesman Yousef al-Mahmoud Saturday said that the decision is offensive to the Palestinian and Arab people and a deliberate attempt to hurt their feelings, according to al-Hayat al-Jadida.
The papers said that the Palestinian National Council said that the decision will not legitimize the Israeli occupation and will not change the identity of Jerusalem.
Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit said on Saturday that the decision is likely going to undermine the last chance of peace and coexistence between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
A statement by Qatari diplomat Mohammed al-Emadi was reported in al-Quds. He said that the Gaza Strip is on the verge of collapsing.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds said Azzam al-Ahmad, member of Fatah Central Committee in charge of the reconciliation talks with Hamas, said an Egyptian security delegation is expected to arrive in the Gaza Strip on Sunday to follow up on the stalled reconciliation efforts between the Palestinian Authority and Hamas.
Al-Ayyam said that an Arab-French summit will be held in Brussels in order to discuss reviving the peace process and to discuss the US decision on Jerusalem.
Al-Quds reported that US President Donald Trump considered the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to be the most difficult in the world.
