OIC calls on international community to adopt Abbas’ peace plan

JEDDAH, February 22, 2018 (WAFA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed President Mahmoud Abbas’ peace proposal that he delivered at the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday.

It affirmed in a press statement the need to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region, especially through a two-state solution, based on international resolutions and the Arab peace initiative.

The OIC called on all concerned countries to adopt the proposal, especially holding an international peace conference with the active participation of international parties and launching a multilateral political process within a specific timeframe to solve all final status issues.

It called for recognizing the State of Palestine as a full member state based on the borders of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Secretariat confirmed that these proposals were in line with the views and positions of the OIC and its commitment to support the efforts of the international community to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace in the region.
