ALBIREH, February 21, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli soldiers Wednesday suppressed a non-violent protest that took off from the city of al-Bireh to the northern entrance of the city.
Israeli forces shot tear gas canisters at protesters who marched to express rejection of US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to transfer the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
The protest comes one day after President Mahmoud Abbas delivered a speech at the UN Security Council in New York and proposed a peace plan.
US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said "The United States knows the Palestinian leadership was very unhappy with the decision to move our embassy to Jerusalem.”
"You don‘t have to like that decision. You don‘t have to praise it. You don‘t even have to accept it. But know this: that decision will not change," she added.
