Israeli army closes Beit El checkpoint, Ramallah northern entrance

RAMALLAH, December 24, 2017 (WAFA) – Israeli armed forces Sunday closed the Beit El checkpoint and the Ramallah- Jalazoun refugee camp main road for traffic in both directions.

WAFA correspondent said this measure has resulted in a traffic jam and prevented passengers’ quick access to the city of Ramallah and al-Bireh.

These two roads connect the city of Ramallah to tens of surrounding villages and the entire north of the West Bank.

The measure came following intense rallies that took place at the northern entrance to the city of al-Bireh to protest US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and plans to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem coupled with Israel’s support of such move which is seen to counter peace efforts.
