AMMAN, December 19, 2017 (WAFA) – Spokesman for the Jordanian government Mohammad al-Momani Tuesday said the results of the Monday voting at the United Nations Security Council prove the entire international community stands against US’ recent decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
“Despite the US veto, international law affirms that the US’ decision is illegal, and does not recognize this decision or any of its consequences,” al-Momani was quoted as saying by the Jordan News Agency (Petra).
Al-Momani said his country will work with all Arab countries and the international community to mobilize support to recognize an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He said Jordan will be working with the United Nations Arab Group to create a momentum that bolsters the legal status of East Jerusalem as an occupied territory and proves the illegality of the US’ decision.
On December 10, the Jordanian House of Representatives approved a proposal empowering the legal committee of the House to revisit the agreements signed between the kingdom and Israel, including the Wadi Araba Treaty, in response to Trump’s decision.
