UPDATE: Man injured, others suffocate as Israeli army attacks protesters in Southern West Bank

HEBRON, December 10, 2017 (WAFA) – A Palestinian young man was seriously injured by Israeli forces‘ fire while dozens others, including school students, suffocated on Sunday as the forces attacked them with teargas during clashes that erupted in al-Arroub refugee camp, near Hebron, and in Bethlehem.

The protesters were rallying to condemn recent announcement by US President Donald Trump in which he recognized Jerusalem as capital of Israel, and decided to move US embassy from Tel Aviv to the city.

Clashes erupted in the aftermath of the rally in al-Arroub refugee camp. The soldiers fired rubber-coated steel rounds at the protesters, seriously injuring a young man in his head. They also used teargas canisters to disperse the protesters, causing multiple cases of suffocation by teargas inhalation.

During the clashes, soldiers chased some of the protesting students and fired teargas canisters inside the campus of Palestine Technical University in the refugee camp.

Similar clashes also erupted in Aida refugee camp, near Bethlehem. There were reports of suffocation cases among the protesters as a result of Israeli forces’ heavy use of teargas to disperse them.

About 1,250 people have been injured by Israeli forces since the beginning of the unrest last week across the occupied Palestinian territories, in the aftermath of the US’ decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
