RAMALLAH, October 12, 2017 (WAFA) – The second day of intensive talks between Fatah and Hamas at the headquarters of Egyptian intelligence in Cairo to achieve reconciliation dominated the front page headlines in Palestinian Arabic dailies on Thursday.
Al-Quds said Fatah and Hamas delegations have concluded another round of talks amidst a positive atmosphere.
It reported senior Hamas official Salah Bardawil stating the Egyptian intelligence service has contributed to facilitating the reconciliation dialogue and that Fatah-Hamas meetings would continue for a week.
Palestinian ambassador to Egypt Jamal Shobaki was reported in the three dailies stating President Mahmoud Abbas has instructed Fatah delegation to make every effort to achieve reconciliation.
Member of Fatah Central Committee Muhammad Shtayyeh was reported in al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida stating Fatah has been working with Hamas and other Palestinian factions to draft a program that provides the basis for national unity.
Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida stating the government was ready to implement thought-out plans in order to meet the needs of Gaza population.
Israeli settlers and forces’ attacks against Palestinians also hit the front page headlines in the dailies.
Al-Quds said Israeli Jewish settlers stepped up their intrusions into East Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and assaults against Palestinians across the West Bank.
Al-Ayyam reported in this regard hundreds of settlers forced their way into Al-Aqsa for the fourth consecutive day.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida added settlers attacked Palestinian farmers while the latter were harvesting olives in Jenin-district town of Yabad and Nablus-district village of Kufr Qalil.
Al-Ayyam added Israeli forces opened fire at Palestinian olive harvesters in Beit Hanoun in the northeast of the besieged Gaza Strip.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam reported at least one Palestinian was injured with rubber-coated steel bullets during overnight clashes with Israeli forces who escorted hundreds of settlers into the archeological site of Joseph’s Tomb in the northern West Bank city of Nablus.
Al-Ayyam added Israeli forces closed Palestinian main roads in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan and denied Palestinian school children access to Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Spotlighting settlement construction plans, al-Quds said the Israeli government announced that it was set to approve plans to construct 3,736 new settler units in West Bank settlements.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida added in this regard a total of 12,000 settler units would be approved by the Israeli government in 2017.
The dailies said the Executive Board of the UNESCO has unanimously approved two draft resolutions related to the occupied Palestinian and Arab territories.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia has backed out from a contract with the Israeli company Elbit Systems.
