RAMALLAH, October 7, 2017 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted in their Saturday issue Israeli army and settlers attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
The dailies printed a picture of a 7-year-old child in hospital with face injuries after Jewish settlers threw rocks at her parents’ car while driving east of Hebron.
Settlers also attacked Palestinian cars with stones in the north of the West Bank seriously injuring one Palestinian, said the dailies. No Israeli was arrested.
The dailies also reported on the Israeli army crackdown on the weekly peaceful protests against settlements in the West Bank and said several Palestinians were hurt when the army fired tear gas or rubber bullets at them.
The highlight was an Israeli army raid into an al-Bireh neighborhood, which is under full Palestinian control, in the middle of the day apparently to arrest an activist. Youths clashed with the force, which left the area after a while.
The main story in al-Quds daily focused on a report quoting “informed” sources that said Hamas may not join the next Palestinian government to avoid a US veto.
It also included a report saying the traditional Hamas leadership is fading while new faces are appearing in the Islamist movement.
It said in a different report that the Muslim Awqaf department in Jerusalem, which is in charge of Muslim property, denied in a statement that its visit to the Greek Orthodox Patriarch in Jerusalem was an approval of his sale of church property to Israeli settler groups and said the visit was to clarify the situation with the Patriarch in order to fight all claims of sale.
Al-Ayyam quoted member of the PLO Executive Committee Ahmad Majdalani saying that he expects the Cairo talks between Fatah and Hamas on reconciliation to succeed in coming up with a timetable for the implementation of the 2011 agreement.
It said in a different story that the Israeli Ministry of Education has summoned an Umm al-Fahem school principal for questioning regarding the playing of a song in school titled “My blood is Palestinian” during a ceremony marking the start of the schoolyear. The summons came after extremist Jewish groups raised the subject on social media.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Mahmoud Abbas thanked the king of Saudi Arabia for his support for the Palestinian cause.
It also quoted Fatah Central Committee members Jibril Rjoub saying that time is right to have a true national partnership that will include an agreement on a political program, statehood, rule of law and the existence of only one weapon in the hands of the official Palestinian security forces.
It also said Fatah Revolutionary Council is continuing its meetings in Ramallah.
