RAMALLAH, August 7, 2017 (WAFA) – The imminent eviction of Palestinian families from their homes in East Jerusalem hit the front page headlines in Palestinian Arabic dailies on Monday.
Al-Quds reported the countdown started for the eviction of Palestinian families from their homes in East Jerusalem to make room for Israeli Jewish settlers.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported members of the Shamasneh family pledging to remain in their home in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah until the last moment of their life.
They explained the eviction of the Shamasneh family from their home would pave the way for the eviction of 45 other Palestinian families from their homes in the same neighborhood to clear the way for settlers to take them over and build a settlement in the heart of occupied East Jerusalem.
The Shamasneh family was handed a court order ordering them to leave their home, which they have rented since 1964, claiming it was a Jewish property.
Al-Quds added a total of 20,000 Palestinian children and their parents created the longest human chain around East Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
It added Israeli police attacked participants in the human chain, injuring a number of participants and detaining others.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added Israeli troops attacked and clashed with Palestinians in East Jerusalem and raided Silwan neighborhood.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Israeli forces detained 13 Palestinians, including a girl, during multiple overnight raids across the West Bank.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added the detainees included a Palestinian young man from Amari refugee camp in Ramallah who was abducted by an undercover Israeli force from his place of work.
Al-Ayyam added Israeli forces also detained a Palestinian man near the border fence to the northwest of Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Israeli bulldozers sealed with a metal gate the entrance to al-Arroub refugee camp in the southern West Bank district of Hebron.
Al-Quds republished a Xinhua report titled [Palestinian[ Residents of the northern Jordan Valley are clinging to their land despite their daily suffering.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam highlighted Israel’s decision to shut down Al Jazeera’s offices in Jerusalem and revoke credentials from its journalists.
The dailies also spotlighted Jordan’s King Abdullah’s visit to the occupied Palestinian territories for talks with President Mahmoud Abbas in the aftermath of the recent Israeli measures affecting Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Abdullah II was reported in al-Quds and al-Ayyam stating there would be no breakthrough in the peace process if there is no US commitment to supporting a solution to the Palestinian question.
He was also reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida stating the future of the Palestinian question was at stake.
Al-Quds raised the possibility that Israel could be laying a siege on Abbas through preventing him from leaving Ramallah.
Al-Quds reported Archbishop Atallah (Theodosius) Hanna from the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem slamming the patriarchate for selling church property to Israeli investors.
It added the US President Donald Trump’s Middle East peace team has totally adopted the Israeli government’s positions.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported member of Fatah Central Committee Azzam al-Ahmad denying media reports by the London-based al-Hayat newspaper alleging Abbas thwarted a new initiative by Egyptian President Abd al-Fattah al-Sisi to broker reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas.
He was reported as stating al-Sisi has not presented any initiative to end the intra-Palestinian division during his recent meeting with Abbas.
