Newspapers Review: Abbas’ meetings in Brussels focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, March 27, 2017 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted on Monday President Mahmoud Abbas’ meeting with the Arab ambassadors to Belgium during his visit to the country’s capital, Brussels.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Abbas met with Arab ambassadors to Belgium during his visit to Brussels. During the meeting, Abbas said that the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) will turn any plans plotted against the Palestinian issue into a failure.

On a different subject, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli occupation forces razed lands near the city of Nablus and continued building the Apartheid Wall near the town of Beit Jala, in the governorate of Bethlehem.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said thousands of Palestinians marched on Sunday in the city of Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank, in support of the PLO.

Al-Ayyam said that Israeli occupation forces ordered more than 10 Palestinian families in Ras al-Ahmar, northeast of Tubas, to leave their homes on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 5:00 AM in order to make way for Israeli military drills in the area.

Reporting on the upcoming Arab Summit in Jordan, a statement by the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad al-Maliki was published in al-Hayat al-Jadida. Al-Maliki said that the Arab Summit will restore the centrality of the Palestinian cause.

Al-Ayyam said that Palestinian officials stated the Arab Summit will confirm the Arab Initiative and will not discuss other proposals.

Al-Ayyam said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he expects to soon reach an understanding with the US regarding settlement construction.
