RAMALLAH, October 31, 2016 (WAFA) – Palestine’s ambassador to Italy, May Kaileh, said Monday that the official visit of Italian President Sergio Mattarella to Palestine, scheduled for Tuesday, comes to emphasize the historical relationship and friendship between Italy and Palestine.
Kaileh recalled in an interview with WAFA the times Italy voted in support of Palestine, including in the United Nations organizations, saying Italy has been one of the oldest friends of the people of Palestine.
She stressed Italy’s continuous financial support to Palestine, particularly in the health and security sectors.
Mattarella is scheduled to meet President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem around noon Tuesday after he visits the Nativity Church and Paul VI Institute.
After the meeting, the Italian President is scheduled to visit Hisham Palace in Jericho where he will also inaugurate the Mosaic School.
Meanwhile, Abbas sent Mattarella a letter expressing Palestine’s support for the Italian leadership and people in the difficult moments following the earthquake that hit Italy two days ago,
He said he has no doubt that Italy and its people can overcome the effects of this natural disaster and rebuild what was destroyed.
He wished well and progress to the Italian people and leadership.
