Number of Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails surpasses 11,000, says prisoners' institutions

RAMALLAH, September 3, 2025 (WAFA) – Palestinian prisoner advocacy groups confirmed on Wednesday that the total number of detainees held inside Israeli custody has risen to more than 11,000, the highest figure since the outbreak of the Second Intifada in 2000.

According to the statement, the total does not include detainees held in Israeli military camps. The majority of those imprisoned are administrative detainees and individuals awaiting trial.

The report highlighted that among the detainees are 94 female detainees, including two female detainees from Gaza, and more than 400 children. The number of administrative detainees reached 3,577, which is the highest percentage compared to the number of detained, convicted, and unlawful combatants detainees.

The organizations stressed that the number of detainees classified as “illegal combatants” reached 2,662 detainees, noting that this number does not include all the detainees from Gaza who are being held in camps affiliated with the occupation army and classified as (illegal combatants), noting that this classification also includes Arab detainees from Lebanon and Syria.
