VIENNA, August 31, 2016 (WAFA) – Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi called on the international community and particularly the European Union to put a stop to Israel’s violation of international law, according to a statement issued by her office on Wednesday.

Speaking on Monday to young professionals and advanced students at the European Forum Alpbach’s “Fireside Talk” held in Vienna, Ashrawi focused on the deteriorating conditions on the ground in the occupied territories, Israel’s “willful destruction of the two-state solution and the prospects for peace and stability by means of the escalation of its illegal settlement enterprise,” said the statement.

The PLO official highlighted in her keynote address what she described as Israel’s “theft of Palestinian land and resources,” as well as “home demolitions, the use of live ammunition and summary executions” against Palestinian civilians, mainly young people, and the internationally-condemned practice of administrative detention and imprisonment of Palestinian men, women and children, among other violations of international law and conventions.

Ashrawi stressed the importance of the international community, in particular the European Union, in exhibiting the political will necessary to hold Israel accountable for its violations.

The Talk was held in conjunction with the Alpbach Political Symposium and in cooperation with the Forum Alpbach Network.
