Yemen welcomes announcements by several countries of their intentions to recognize State of Palestine

ADEN, August 1, 2025 (WAFA) – The Republic of Yemen on Friday welcomed the announcements by Canada, Portugal, and Malta of their intentions to recognize the State of Palestine.

In a statement, Yemen's Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised this significant international consensus as a long-awaited historic milestone and an important step toward ending a conflict that has persisted for over half a century and toward opening real prospects for achieving a just and lasting peace in the region.

Yemen called on all other countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to take similar steps, in adherence to their commitment to the principles of international law and in support of the inalienable and historic rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The statement reaffirmed Yemen’s firm and longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, stressing that recognition of the State of Palestine is not only a legal and historical entitlement, but also a genuine expression of commitment to justice and human rights, particularly at a time when responsible international positions are urgently needed to restore faith in the two-state solution, in line with relevant UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
