RAMALLAH, Aug 9, 2016 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Tuesday focused on a recently published Israeli settlement plan to construct some 2500 housing units in occupied East Jerusalem area.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli policemen and archeologists broke into al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Monday.
The dailies said that hundreds of Palestinians rallied in several West Bank districts in solidarity with hunger striking Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails.
The dailies reported that the Israeli government had retreated from handling a body of Bahaa Elayyan, a Palestinian who was shot dead by Israeli police in Jerusalem last year.
Al-Quds and Al-Ayyam said that a female Palestinian infant suffocated by teargas after Israeli soldiers quelled a Palestinian rally in Jerusalem.
The dailies also focused on President Mahmoud Abbas’ meeting with the revolutionary council of Fatah. Al-Hayat Al-Jadida quoted President Abbas as saying: “We are serious in following-up all the cases which prove the political and existential right of the Palestinian people”.
Al-Quds quoted Abbas as saying: “The Palestinian cause is entering a new legal phase”. While Al-Ayyam quoted him as saying: “holding elections on time is an expression of the Palestinian Authority‘s commitment to democracy”.
Al-Quds and Al-Ayyam said that the Israeli military committee of objections cancelled a court ruling which announced 224 acres of land near Jerusalem as "state land".
