JERUSALEM, August 4, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Thursday detained 12 Palestinians, including two minors, and shot and injured another during overnight raids across the West Bank, said Palestine Prisoner’s Society and a local activist.
For the second consecutive day, Israeli police detained six staff of the rehabilitation committee of the Islamic Endowment (Waqf), which manages the flashpoint Al-Aqsa mosque compound.
Police stormed the mosque compound and ordered the staff to halt maintenance work on the Dome of the Rock’s arabesques and interior mosaics before detaining them.
The detainees were identified as director of the rehabilitation committee Bassam al-Hallaq, Muhammad al-Dabbagh, Mutasem Karraja, Mahmoud al-Anati, Anas al-Dabbagh and Suleiman Abdul-Latif
Also in Jerusalem district, forces detained Mahmoud Shamasna after storming and ransacking his house in an overnight raid into Qatanna town, northwest of Jerusalem.
Forces also detained a Palestinian from the Jerusalem refugee camp of Qalandiya after forcing him o turn himself.
Mteir, a minor, was forced to turn himself after soldiers briefly held one of his relatives at Qalandiya military checkpoint.
In Hebron district, Israeli troops detained a Palestinian during a raid that sparked clashes in Beit Ummar town, north of Hebron.
Muhammad Awad, a local activist who monitors settlement construction, said troops raided Beit Ummar, storming and occupying the rooftops of many houses and detaining a Palestinian.
The detainee was identified as Hamza Allami, 17.
Troops fired live rounds, rubber-coated steel bullets and tear gas canisters during subsequent clashes, hitting and injuring a local in the foot and causing several others to suffocate.
Ahmad Abu Hashem was one of the locals whose houses were stormed and thoroughly searched.
During the raid, troops handed Abu Hashem a notice, ordering him to appear before intelligence, and female troops “provocatively” searched his wife, triggering a scuffle.
Other homeowners were identified as Ahmad Khlaiel, Sami Aby Ayyash and Majed Husani.
In Jericho district, troops detained Tawfiq Qandil and Aysar Samhuri during an overnight raid into Aqabet Jaber refugee camp, southwest of Jericho.
Another Palestinian identified as Fayez Yassin was detained during a raid into the northern West Bank district of Jenin.
