Newspaper Review: Fatah-Hamas Meeting in Doha Focus of Dailies

RAMALLAH, June 16, 2016 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Arabic dailies focused on Thursday on a meeting which gathered Hamas and Fatah officials in Doha, in an effort to push forward intra-Palestinian reconciliation talks.

They said two delegations from Hamas and Fatah parties gathered in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on Wednesday evening for talks on achieving Palestinian national reconciliation.

Meanwhile, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem approved a plan to build a settlement building in the Jerusalem neighborhood district of Silwan.

Al-Quds said the Israeli navy detained 10 Palestinian fishermen while they were sailing offshore Gaza, as well as seized their fishing boats.

Al-Ayyam said President Mahmoud Abbas started an official visit to Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Belgium.

Al-Quds said the Arab Parliament condemned the position of the countries that voted in favor of Israel as head of the United Nations’ legal committee.

Al-Ayyam and al-Quds said the Israeli government, in its weekly session set for Sunday, is expected to discuss a plan to demolish “thousands of Arab-owned homes” in Israel, under the pretext of construction without permission.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Mahmoud Abbas met with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Amman on Wednesday evening, aiming to improve mutual Palestinian-Jordanian relations.
