RAMALLAH, June 6, 2016 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Monday issue on remarks made by President Mahmoud Abbas on the 49th anniversary of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Jerusalem, or the Naksa Day.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Abbas as saying: “We will preserve our national constants and holy sites, and [our] independent state is coming.”
Al-Ayyam quoted Abbas: “We will accept anything short of a complete end of the Israeli occupation and the creation of [our] state.”
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added that Abbas, on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, gave instructions to the government to intensify its priced controls for goods and services sold during Ramadan.
The three dailies, including al-Quds, said that hundreds of Israeli settlers rallied outside the Old City neighborhood in Jerusalem, to commemorate the 49th anniversary of the Israeli occupation of Jerusalem and the West Bank.
Al-Ayyam said that deputy Mayor of Jerusalem announced Israel’s intention to construct a new settlement neighborhood for extremist settlers to the north of Jerusalem.
Al-Ayyam also said that, according to Israeli daily Haaretz, a Habayit Hayehudi lawmaker said her party will try once again to push through a bill to legalize the expropriation of private Palestinian land in West Bank settlements.
