Newspaper Review: Abbas Appreciates France’s Peace Efforts

RAMALLAH, June 5, 2016 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Arabic dailies focused on Sunday on remarks made by President Mahmoud Abbas, during a phone call with French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, who applauded France’s efforts towards achieving peace in Palestine and Israel.                                                                                                                                          
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat Al-Jadida reported that President Mahmoud Abbas received a phone call from Ayrault, and thanked him for the French efforts to solve the Palestinian issue.

Al-Ayyam reported that Ayrault will soon visit the region to follow up with the results of the Paris Peace Conference.

On a different subject, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat Al-Jadida quoted Yitzhak Hertzog, the Israeli opposition leader, who said that the Arabs had not believed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his new “Defense” Minister Avegdor Lieberman regarding peace.

Al-Ayyam reported that Palestinian parties are calling for an end to the Palestinian division and to restore the unity on the 49th anniversary of Israeli occupation of Gaza Strip and West Bank.

Al-Hayat Al-Jadida reported that Irish syndicates and labor s demanded “Airbnb” company to stop advertising for medical drugs manufactured in Israeli settlements.

Al-Ayyam also reported that Israeli is trying to circumvent the French initiative by seeking regional understandings with the Arab states.

Al-Ayyam quoted to Neftali Bennet- the leader of the Israeli “Jewish Home” party as saying: “We (the Israelis) will keep all settlements in West Bank, and we will refuse the Arab Peace Initiative”.
