RAMALLAH, May 24, 2016 (WAFA) – The Palestinian dailies focused in their Tuesday issue on the Israeli troops’ fatal shooting of a Palestinian girl at a checkpoint near Jerusalem.
The dailies said Sawsan Mansour, 17 years old, was killed by Israeli forces stationed at the checkpoint, after she allegedly attempted to stab some of them with a knife.
The three dailies also focused on the burial of the two Palestinian brothers who were killed by Israeli troops in recent months.
On a different subject, the dailies said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu renewed rejection of the French peace initiative, telling the visiting French Prime Minister that peace cannot be forged through international conferences but only through direct negotiations.
Al-Hayat Al-Jadida quoted the Israeli opposition leader Yitzhak Hertzog after the talks resumed between the Likud and Yisrael Beiteinu as saying: “Israel is sick with ultra-nationalism and infected with fascism.”
Al-Quds and Al-Hayat Al-Jadida reported that the executive office of the Arab Ministers of Media adopted Jerusalem as the capital of the Arabic Media for 2016.
Al-Quds reported that the Israeli government declared a new plan for expanding settlement activities in the Jerusalem district of Sheikh Jarrah. The plan intends to 38 new settlement units in an Israeli settlement that lies on the Arab lands.
Al-Ayyam reported that Israeli forces demolished a chapel near Damascus Gate in Jerusalem, and distributed a stop-construction orders to 13 structures in the Jordan Valley.
