RAMALLAH, May 18, 2016 (WAFA) – The Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem on Wednesday demolished a Palestinian-owned home in the town of Shuafat, on the outskirts of Jerusalem, in preparation to connect two Israeli settlements, according to local sources.
WAFA correspondent said staff from the municipality accompanied by Israeli policemen broke into the town and denied access of local Palestinians to the site, before they proceeded to demolish the home, under the pretext of construction without a permit.
The municipality also said the demolition was to construct a road to serve Israeli settlers from the nearby illegal settlements of Pisgat Ze’ev and Ramat Shlomo.
The demolished home belongs to Rajeh Huwarin Sabbar, a local Palestinian, and was the only shelter of his seven-member family.
Despite repeated condemnations by the international community, Israel has come under little actual pressure to halt its settlement program, land seizures, or the forced displacement of Palestinian communities.
