RAMALLAH, May 18, 2016 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Wednesday issue on remarks made by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi, in which he stressed that creating an independent state of Palestine was key to regional stability.
El-Sisi also called on the Palestinians to “unite the different factions in order to achieve reconciliation and quickly,” adding: “It is a real opportunity to find a long-awaited solution.”
The three dailies added that President Mahmoud Abbas praised his Egyptian counterpart, and welcomed his efforts towards peace.
Meanwhile, the dailies said French President Francois Hollande declared on Tuesday that an international conference due in late May in Paris to help re-launch peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis would be postponed to June to ensure the United States would attend.
“This initiative is necessary because if nothing happens, if there is no strong French initiative, then colonization, attacks, terrorist attacks and several conflicts are going to continue,” he was quoted by al-Hayat al-Jadida.
On a different subject, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli authorities demolished two homes belonging to the Palestinian Totah family in Wadi al-Jouz, a neighborhood of Jerusalem, under the pretext of construction without a permit.
Al-Ayyam said that an Israeli court in Jerusalem decided to force three Palestinian families out of their homes located in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah, under the pretext that the three homes are a “Jewish” property.
