BETHLEHEM, December 1, 2015 (WAFA) – A Palestinian man Tuesday
morning was shot dead by Israeli forces following an alleged stabbing attempt
at a main junction near a West Bank illegal settlement, south of Bethlehem.
Israeli daily (Haaretz) reported on Israeli police spokeswoman as
saying that the Palestinian “assailant” was shot dead as he “wielded a knife in
the attempted stabbing attack” at the Gush Etzion junction.
She was also reported as saying that a 40-year-old bystander was
slightly hurt from a stray bullet fired by an Israeli officer securing the
location.
Israeli paramedics reportedly treated the man, who suffered from a wound
to his hand, at the scene, before he was evacuated to Hadassah Ein Karem
Hospital in Jerusalem.
The alleged Palestinian “assailant” was identified as Ma’moun
al-Khatib, 16, from the Bethlehem town of al-Doha.
Since a wave of violence spiraled across the occupied Palestinian
territories in early October 2015, a number of Palestinians have been shot dead by
Israeli army soldiers following alleged and confirmed attacks reported to have
taken place at the aforementioned junction.
The killing of al-Khatib brings the total number of Palestinians
killed by Israeli forces since the beginning of unrest in early October to 107,
reported the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
