Eurovision Song Contest 2025: Demonstrators protest Israel's participation

BASEL, May 12, 2025 (WAFA) — The official opening ceremony of the Eurovision Song Contest, held this year in Basel, Switzerland, saw anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian protests.

Protesters waved Palestinian flags, demanded Israel's expulsion from the contest, and chanted anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian slogans.

Swiss singer Nemo, who won last year's Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden, said he opposes Israel's participation in this year's contest and supports calls for its exclusion.

He added, "Israel's actions fundamentally contradict the values that the Eurovision Song Contest claims to champion, such as peace, unity, and respect for human rights," referring to Israel's genocide in the Gaza Strip.
