RAMALLAH, March 15, 2015 (WAFA)
– The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted on Sunday the
confrontations, which broke out between Israeli army and Palestinians in many
areas across the West Bank, and which continue to be an almost daily trend.
Al-Ayyam said dozens suffocated
by teargas after Israeli soldiers fired canisters towards Palestinian
protestors during clashes.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was escalating his “war of words” amid little
chance of winning a fourth term in office.
Al-Ayyam said officials in the
Likud party are seeking to overthrow Netanyahu as chairman of the right-wing
party, just ahead of the elections set for March 17.
Tackling a different topic,
al-Quds quoted a report by the Applied Research Institute Jerusalem (ARIJ),
which revealed an Israeli government’s plan to expand the settlement bloc of
Gush Etzion, south of Jerusalem and Bethlehem, to reach as far as the Dead Sea.
Al-Hayat and al-Quds quoted US
Secretary of State John Kerry, who stressed that US President Barack Obama remains
“committed to a two-state solution” to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Al-Ayyam quoted an UNRWA report
saying that Palestinian refugees in Syria have been severely affected by the
ongoing conflict. Commissioner-General Pierre Krähenbühl said that the refugees’
eyes and words reflect their difficult conditions.
