RAMALLAH,
October 23, 2014 (WAFA) – A fatal car crash which took place on Wednesday in
Jerusalem, where a Palestinian’s car rammed into Israeli commuters, killing one
of them and injuring eight others, topped the front pages of the three Palestinian
Arabic dailies in Thursday’s issue.
Al-Quds said
in its main news story that a Palestinian youngster, identified as 20-year-old Abdul-Rahman
Shloudi, from the Jerusalem suburb of Silwan was killed, whereas an Israeli infant
was killed and eight others injured when Shloudi’s car drifted leftward into
pedestrians at a railway stop.
Al-Ayyam
said a youngster was killed by Israeli Police live fire after his car crashed
into Israeli pedestrians waiting at a railway stop in Jerusalem, killing one
and injuring eight others.
Al-Hayat
al-Jadida focused more on a recent “red lines” paper submitted by the European
Union to Israel, warning the latter not to carry on settlement construction and
expansion or change the status quo in Al-Aqsa Mosque.
It also
commented on Jerusalem’s car crash, saying Israel tries to exploit the accident
to step up its crackdown on Palestinian youth activists in the Old City, as
well as to incite against the Palestinian Authority.
Al-Quds said
the EU is seeking to negotiate with Israel over “red lines” on Israel’s ongoing
settlement activities.
It said
Israeli settlers on Wednesday set 200 Palestinian-owned olive trees on fire in
the village of Huwwara, south of Nablus.
Al-Quds and
al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted US Secretary of State John Kerry as saying the status
quo in Israel and the Palestinian Territory is ‘unsustainable.’
The three
dailies quoted an Israel official, speaking on condition of anonymity, as
saying that Israel is not planning to change the de facto status in al-Aqsa
Mosque, under Jordanian civil administration and Israel military control.
Al-Quds and
al-Ayyam said the Irish Upper House of Parliament, Seanad, unanimously passed a
motion calling on the government to recognize the State of Palestine.
Both dailies
said Spanish parties have submitted a bill to Spanish Congress of Deputies
calling for the government to recognize Palestine as an official state.
They also
said a 9-year-old Palestinian child died on Wednesday in an explosion caused by
explosive remnants of the latest Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
Al-Hayat
al-Jadida said two Israeli soldiers were injured by live fire during a cross
border attack on Israel-Egypt borders.
