Occupation forces demolish more homes in Nur Shams refugee camp

TULKARM, May 7, 2025 (WAFA) – On the 87th consecutive day of aggression, Israeli occupation demolished more homes and residential buildings in the Nur Shams refugee camp, east of the occupied West Bank city of Tulkarm, according to WAFA correspondent.

She said that the occupation forces escorted a D-10 bulldozer into the refugee camp, where the heavy machinery tore down more homes and residential buildings in the Al-Jami' neighborhood and the surrounding area.

This came after the occupation forces announced their preparations to demolish 19 buildings comprising over 50 apartments in the refugee camp neighborhoods of al-Jami‘ and al-Maslakh, and gave Palestinian residents just a few hours notice to vacate their belongings.

The homes slated to be demolished belonged to over 18 families, including the Ghannam, Alian, Khalifa, Omar, Shehadeh, Abu Jaish, Aqel, Jarrar, Qarawi, Al-Sayes, Najjar, Abu Salah, and Saleh families.

Since morning, residents of the camp have rushed to retrieve their belongings from their houses. However, they were harassed, detained, assaulted and subjected to interrogation by Israeli soldiers deployed in the camp's neighborhoods.

On Thursday, May 1, the occupation forces issued demolition orders for 106 houses and buildings in the Nur Shams and Tulkarm refugee camps.

Abdullah Kmeil, governor of Tulkarm, confirmed the orders target 58 buildings in Tulkarm refugee camp and 48 houses in Nur Shams camp. Kmeil described the intended demolitions as a crime against humanity and asked the international community and human rights organizations to intervene immediately.

The ongoing Israeli aggression has forcibly displaced over 4,200 families, totaling more than 25,000 citizens, from the Tulkarm and Nour Shams camps. The occupation forces have also completely destroyed 396 homes, partially damaged 2,573 others, and sealed off entrances with earth mounds.
