JERUSALEM,
June 23, 2014 – (WAFA) – Jerusalem District Electricity Company (JDECO)’s
Director General Hisham Al-Omari stated Monday that JDECO was officially
notified that electricity would be restricted to some of its franchise areas.
JDECO
was officially notified that Israel Electric Company (IEC) would restrict
electricity supply to some of JDECO’s franchise areas until the latter pays off
an accumulated debt of NIS 974 million ($282 million), noted Al-Omari, who
added that IEC did not specify areas in which electricity would be restricted
and time.
Al-Omari
also noted that IEC took this decision without warning in the wake of the calls
made by Israeli Deputy ‘Defense’ Minister Danny Danon to cut off electricity to
West Bank and Gaza for few days to attract worldwide attention to the case of
the three missing settlers whom, according to Israeli allegations, are
kidnapped.
He
called upon all Palestinian consumers, including public sector institutions,
private sector institutions and hospitals, in JDECO’s franchise areas, namely
Jerusalem, Ramallah, Bethlehem and Jericho, to stay cautious and pay off their
debts in order to enable JDECO to meet its financial obligations.
