RAMALLAH, October 8, 2026 (WAFA) — Vice President of the State of Palestine Hussein al-Sheikh condemned the Israeli measures against the British Consulate General in Jerusalem and its staff.
In a statement on Thursday, al-Sheikh said the measures constituted unacceptable interference in the work of diplomatic missions and an attempt to impose Israeli sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Palestine occupied since 1967.
He stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over Jerusalem, and welcomed the United Kingdom's rejection of any Israeli claim aimed at closing the consulate, which has maintained a longstanding presence in East Jerusalem.
Al-Sheikh also welcomed Britain's commitment to continue the consulate's work, serve the Palestinian people and maintain its presence in Jerusalem.
He affirmed the State of Palestine's commitment to strengthening its relations with the United Kingdom and working jointly to end the Israeli occupation, establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and support a two-state solution.
