NEW YORK, September 25, 2026 (WAFA) – WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus affirmed that the Gaza Strip continues to face a humanitarian and public health emergency, nearly a year after the ceasefire.

Ghebreyesus said during his participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, currently being held in New York, that the health system in the Gaza Strip remains under extreme strain, while humanitarian and health needs remain immense.

The WHO Director-General stressed the need to ensure rapid, sustained, and unhindered humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip.

He added that medical supplies and equipment must be allowed to reach those who need them, alongside the rehabilitation of health facilities, the restoration of patient referral pathways, and the expansion of medical evacuations.
