Arab League welcomes UN resolution on Palestine’s participation in 81st UN General Assembly session

CAIRO, September 18, 2026 (WAFA) – The General Secretariat of the Arab League has welcomed the United Nations General Assembly resolution, which was adopted with 152 countries voting in favor. The resolution rejects the United States’ decision to bar the Palestinian delegation from participating in the Assembly’s 81st session and calls on Washington to reverse its stance, considering the move a clear violation of the UN Headquarters Agreement.

In a statement issued today, Friday, the General Secretariat of the Arab League emphasized that the vote reflects broad international opposition to depriving the State of Palestine of its right to convey its voice and positions to the international community. Furthermore, it underscored the critical importance of ensuring Palestine's full participation in the work of the United Nations and other international forums.

The General Secretariat commended the positions of the nations that sponsored and voted in favor of the resolution. It stressed that the United States, in its capacity as the host country, must fulfill its legal obligations under the UN Headquarters Agreement to ensure that all foreign delegations can participate in the work of the international organization without hindrance.

It affirmed that the Palestinian voice will continue to be present at the United Nations and that the broad international support for the resolution reflects the international community’s commitment to the State of Palestine and its cause within the international organization, as well as to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
