CAIRO, September 16, 2026 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas met Egyptian General Intelligence Chief Minister Hassan Rashad at his residence in Cairo.

During the meeting, President Abbas briefed Minister Rashad on the situation in the occupied Palestinian Territory amid the relentless Israeli genocidal aggression against Gaza, accompanied by a blockade, starvation, and daily killings, despite the announcement of an agreement to implement the second phase of the ceasefire.

He also briefed him on the grave escalation by Israeli occupation forces and colonist militias in the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem, along with colonial settlement expansion and attacks on holy sites.

The President extended his appreciation to Cairo for its unwavering positions and continued efforts, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, in support of the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people’s rights in international forums. He valued Cairo's relief and humanitarian efforts in Gaza.

The meeting was attended by Vice President and Deputy Chairman of the PLO Executive Committee Hussein Al Sheikh; Chairman of the Palestinian National Council (PNC) Rawhi Fattouh; Fatah Central Committee member and General Intelligence Chief Majed Faraj; Presidential Advisor for Diplomatic Affairs Majdi Al-Khalidi; and Acting Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Egypt Naji Al-Najy.

Earlier today, President Abbas arrived in Cairo for a two-day official visit as part of ongoing consultation and coordination between the Palestinian and Egyptian leaderships and had a summit with his Egyptian counterpart.
