AMMAN, July 16, 2026 (WAFA) – President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas received Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy today at his residence in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
During the meeting, the latest political and field developments in the Palestinian territories were reviewed. Discussions also covered ways to enhance coordination and cooperation between the State of Palestine and the Arab League, as well as preparations for upcoming Arab commitments, in a manner that contributes to mobilizing Arab and international support for the Palestinian cause and confronting challenges targeting Palestinian national rights, including ending the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, ensuring the entry of aid, beginning the recovery and reconstruction phase, and securing the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
The two sides also discussed halting colonial expansion and colonists' terrorism, as well as the release of Palestinian clearance funds withheld by Israel.
President Abbas expressed his pride in the Arab League's historic role in supporting the Palestinian cause, praising its steadfast positions and the efforts of Arab countries to uphold the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people until they achieve freedom and independence.
The President also expressed appreciation for the humanitarian assistance provided by Arab countries to the Gaza Strip, reiterating the importance of activating the Arab financial safety net amid these difficult and exceptional circumstances to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people.
For his part, Fahmy affirmed the Arab League's continued full support for the State of Palestine and its leadership, and its backing of the Palestinian people in confronting current challenges.
He reaffirmed the Arab League's commitment to working with Arab countries and the international community to support efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy resolutions.
The meeting was attended by PLO Executive Committee member Ziad Abu Amr, the President's diplomatic adviser Majdi al-Khalidi, and Palestine's Permanent Representative to the Arab League Ambassador Muhannad al-Aklouk.
