RAMALLAH, May 21, 2026 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas received a delegation of sheikhs and community leaders from Bir Al-Saba on Thursday at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

The delegation congratulated President Abbas on the conclusion of the Eighth Conference of Fatah, his unanimous re-election as the movement’s leader, and the election of Fatah’s Central Committee and Revolutionary Council.

Members of the delegation described the conference as a reflection of the Palestinian people’s democratic commitment despite ongoing political and security challenges, saying it demonstrated a continued dedication to freedom, independence, and democratic practice under exceptional circumstances.

President Abbas welcomed the delegation from the Naqab region, stressing the importance of strengthening fraternal ties among Palestinians both inside and outside Palestine.

He also reiterated that despite the difficult conditions facing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, the Palestinian leadership remains committed to achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders.
