President Abbas awards Russian poet for support of Palestinian cause

RAMALLAH, May 7, 2026 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas has awarded Russian poet Vadim Teryukhin, head of the BRICS Writers' Union, the Order of Culture, Science, and Arts (Level of Distinction), in recognition of his unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and a just solution to the Palestinian question, as well as his role in strengthening cultural and historical ties between Palestine and Russia.

The award was presented on behalf of President Abbas by Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa during a meeting held Thursday at his office in Ramallah, in the presence of Minister of Culture Imad Hamdan and Secretary-General of the Palestinian Writers’ Union Murad Sudani.

The Prime Minister emphasized the important role of writers, intellectuals, and authors worldwide in supporting the Palestinian cause and conveying the suffering of the Palestinian people to international public opinion. He stressed the importance of the written word and culture in defending justice and freedom.

He also briefed the guest on the situation in Palestine, including the genocide in the Gaza Strip and the ongoing attacks and colonist  terrorism against Palestinians in the West Bank.

For his part, the Russian poet expressed his gratitude to President Mahmoud Abbas for awarding him this medal, considering it a great honor and affirming that Palestine would remain deeply present in his work and thought.

He affirmed that he would continue, through his writing, to support the Palestinian cause and work to establish the values ​​of peace and justice, , adding that he would convey what he had seen and learned to his people, to cultural circles, and to the international poets' movement in support of Palestine.
