RAMALLAH, April 26, 2026 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas congratulated the Palestinian people across all governorates on the success of the recent local elections, describing them as a reflection of national and democratic spirit.

He said the elections demonstrated the public’s awareness and determination to exercise their democratic rights despite difficult and exceptional conditions under ongoing Israeli occupation and aggression.

The President emphasized that the success represents a new victory for the Palestinian national will and a clear expression of commitment to democracy and public participation in building national institutions and strengthening their role in serving citizens.

He highlighted the importance of local councils and bodies in improving services, supporting citizens, and reinforcing their resilience, particularly amid significant challenges facing the Palestinian people.

President Abbas added that the achievement comes within a broader framework of democratic activity, which began with Fatah youth elections and continues through local elections. He noted that it will culminate next month with the eighth conference of the Fatah movement and leadership elections, followed by Palestinian National Council elections.

He called on all newly elected local bodies to assume their responsibilities, work collectively, and meet the needs of citizens while strengthening their resilience and commitment to their land and legitimate national rights.
