RAMALLAH, April 15, 2026 (WAFA) – President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas expressed his strong condemnation of the repression, abuse, and brutal assaults endured by Palestinian detainees in Israeli occupation prisons, which violate their human dignity.

The President further denounced the recent serious assaults and inhumane practices carried out against Fatah Central Committee member and detainee leader Marwan Barghouti, describing them as a blatant violation of all relevant international laws and conventions related to detainees’ rights.

The President said these repeated assaults against Palestinian detainees reflect a systematic policy by the occupation authorities aimed at undermining their dignity, stressing that such actions are entirely rejected and unacceptable. The president condemned such practices as a clear breach of international humanitarian law and Geneva Conventions concerning the status of detainees.

President Abbas called on international legal and human rights institutions to assume their full responsibilities and take urgent action to pressure the occupation authorities to halt their ongoing violations and assaults against Palestinian detainees, end all forms of torture and inhumane treatment, and immediately apply all relevant international laws and conventions on detainees’ rights.

The President held the occupation authorities fully responsible for the life of detainee Marwan Barghouti and all fellow detainees, affirming that efforts will continue at all levels to end their suffering and secure their freedom.
